I finally got a new phone, so I’ve started using Imity, an application that uses bluetooth to connect you with people that are near that you either know or do not know. And it works! Yesterday I was eating tapas at Atame with a friend of mine, suddenly the persons sitting next to us asks ”Søren Mørk?” and it turns out to be Christian Dalager and Trine Rahbek whom I’ve never met before. I’ve been reading Dalagers blog for some time and strangely enough I just added him as a contact on flickr yesterday morning, and then we end up at the same tapas bar that evening and because of imity, we ended up talking and having fun for a couple of hours together.
This is a wonderful example of a technology that mixes what goes on in your online life with your offline presence; it truly takes the social networking online offline. Most online activities have relations to offline things and the other way around, which is why we should not distinguish so much between on and offline.

A bit late but it is not Christmas yet. Artnode have for the last couple of years been doing a Christmas calendar, but not this year. Others have taken over though, Gladsaxe Bibliotekerne has a podcast with Christmas stories written by children and read by employees of the library. Yesterday a friend told me about an old project called Go Johnny Go. The leader of the Danish National Socialist Movement is named Johnny Hansen. During their annual march someone organized that for every meter Johnny walked, money would be donated to NGOs working with developmental aid in Africa. This is a magnificent idea and happening – subversive in the true sense of the word.

I would very much like to copy this idea. My idea is that every time a member of Dansk Folkeparti uses the word Islam or Muslim in the press money would be given to a fond buying copies of the Koran and handing them out for free. It could be supplemented with a point system, so that every time they use the words in the same sentence, the point score is doubled – lets say 15 DKR for single use and 30 for double use. If they use some of the condescending words such as muhammeddaner 50 DKR would be donated.

It would be pretty simple to register when they use these words, a simple search in the Danish newspaper and journal archive – informedia.dk – could be the source. The problem is monitoring the use in TV.

If you have any ides of who would fond/donate money to such a thing please speak up! One other thing, could the money be given to something else than handing out free copies of the Koran? Since I generally have a problem with religion, it is problematic for me to spend the money in this way. But on the other hand this is something that would really hit Dansk Folkeparti right where it hurts – every time they use racist discourse, they are donating money to the dissemination of what they really are against – Islam.
